Description
Mk2 Ignition Module
This Genuine OES Mk2 ignition module is made by the original manufacturer supplier. These ignition switch are known to fail. For example, some symptoms are a no start situation, engine starts and runs fine – then stops for no reason.
Most symptoms look like a bad ignition switch, fuel pump, or fuel pump relay. Furthermore, this is sometimes not the case. Removing the ignition control module and checking for minor cracks on the module case is a good sign of a bad module.
This is a 7 pin module. Not to be confused with a 6 pin. Make sure you double check your module before ordering.
- 6-pin modules (often with a 3+3 pin style rectangular connector) are typically used with inductive ignition distributors. (Points)
- 7-pin modules (often with a flat, side-by-side pins style) require a Hall Effect distributor, which uses a different signal system (a 3-wire sensor).
You can convert your Mk1 distributor from points to a Mk2 distributor with a hall sender. When you do, you will need this module.
NOTE:
You must apply a generous coat of electrical thermal paste on the bottom mounting surface of this module before installing. This is also known as heatsink paste and is silver or white in color.
When you remove your old ignition module, you will see white paste under this. Clean 100% of this off with brake cleaner or any other solevent you clean with.
Most electrical supply and hardware stores carry this. Amazon is also a good place to find this.
